Wednesday Morning Update

So far things are on track for parts of South Central Texas to see some wintery precipitation.By Brian Alonzo Meteorologist/Weather & Traffic Producer

In our previous post, we mentioned that if there was sunshine on Tuesday the chances of San Antonio seeing snow would be very slim. That appears to be the case. We hit a high of 52° at the San Antonio Int’l Airport on Tuesday so that means with the ground very warm, any precipitation will not accumulate on S.A. roads.

In the Hill Country that’s a different story. Temperatures are forecasted to be at or slightly below 32° (Late Wed. Night -Thurs. Morning) which means there is the possibility that some bridges or overpasses may become slick or icy. The chances are slim but nonetheless are there.  This computer model (I tend to agree with) shows most of the wintery precipitation will be confined mainly to the Hill Country and just north of San Antonio.

Does that mean San Antonio won’t see any winter precipitation? Not necessarily. We could see some sleet or a brief flurry. Will it stick? Does not appear so at this time. Other than that, if its not winter precip, it will be mainly a rain event for us in SA. The rain will taper off late Thursday evening and Friday appears to be a much better day with temperatures rebounding into the mid 50’s with sunshine.

The next two days will be interesting. This weather event depends on temperatures. If its colder more areas could see snow/sleet which could accumulate. If it stays warmer then most areas will see rain and nothing more. Right now, we’re going with high temperatures near 40° in SA today and mid 30’s in the Hill Country. Rainfall accumulations will range anywhere from 1/2 an inch to about 1.5 inches. There could be some minor flood issues in low lying areas but nothing major like we’ve seen the past few weeks.
