Friday Freebies – August 21st

This week, I decided to focus on the start of school. I’ve found some savings and plenty of lunch and snack ideas, too.

Get the kiddos ready for school (or buy yourself some school supplies) sans taxes this weekend. Here are the items that make the cut.

Nabisco has $55 worth coupons available from its website. You’ll have to register – and do it quickly! The site says the coupons are available “while supplies last.”

Walgreens has some back to school coupons. This blog has the list of savings. You can get the brochure in the store.

While you’re out doing your tax-free back to school shopping Saturday (August 22), swing by Krispy Kreme for a dozen original glazed donuts for 99 cents! Go here to find a location.

If you want to make school lunches a little more exciting, you might check this site for some ideas. This site makes the ordinary lunch look like a party! If your child is vegetarian, this site has some ideas worth trying. And here are some after school snack ideas.

If you find your child’s homework is getting more difficult, bookmark this site. It might help you both get through those tough problems.

And this one is non-school related. It comes highly recommended by The Great Brian Mylar. I’m not just saying that because he’s my co-worker. He is so hooked into the music scene around here, that he has tipped us off to Hot Club of Cowtown. They’re playing a free show at Gruene Hall Sunday starting at 5 p.m.. Brian says, “That chick can fiddle!” Check out their website.

That’s it for this week. If you want to share a tip, send an email to with “Friday Freebies” in the subject line.
