Winter Weather Words of Wisdom

Throughout the country there are advisories/watches/warnings that are issued by local weather forecast offices. For San Antonio, our forecast office is in New Braunfels. They issue winter weather statements if weather conditions decide to take a turn of the worse. Here are some explainers you may want to keep in the back of your mind.

Winter Storm Watch: Issued between 24 and 48 hours before a storm is expected. It will describe whether sleet, ice, or snow will be affecting a particular area.

Winter Storm Warning: Issued when a storm is expected within 24 hours. Preparations need to be completed at this time.

Winter Weather Advisories: Issued when light accumulations of snow, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, or sleet are expected to occur but cause only an inconvenience to motorists and residents.

Of course you can keep tabs of any winter advisories by heading over our Severe Weather section of KSAT.com. You’ll see a map and text of whose affected.
