The Bachelorette: After The Final Rose
One more hour of The Bachelorette. This time, it’s not all roses. First, we hear from Jason – the single father from Seattle who thought he had found the woman to complete his family.
The audience (which appears to be full of women) cheers loudly for Jason. While watching a recap of their relationship, you can see he’s hurt. He looks almost mad as he watches DeAnna kiss him and eventually reject his proposal. He takes a deep breath and says “Wow.” He says he was in love with her, that he felt connected with her. When asked what happened at the end, he says he doesn’t know. “Every moment we were together, it felt like we were a couple on a vacation or a honeymoon or something like that … When we got back to the room, it was just the perfect time to tell her that I was in love with her … And when I pulled up, I was so sure it was me … I got down on my knee to propose and I was OK with everything I was doing … but then when she had me get up … I was a little shocked she let me get down on my knee. I kind of wish she didn’t let me get all the way down there.” He talks about their time in Seattle, and when he says DeAnna put Ty to sleep in the car, the audience goes “Awwww.” Jason still has feelings for DeAnna. He says, “I don’t wish any pain like this on anybody.”
DeAnna comes out to answer some of Jason’s questions. DeAnna says she’s nervous and adds “I never wanted to make anybody feel like I felt, and for the first time today, watching it all back stage, I realize I made you feel like I felt. I’m sorry. She’s crying. And it hurts because I never wanted to make you feel that way … but I never wanted to hurt you.” Jason asks her when she knew it wasn’t him. DeAnna says it was that morning that she realized she was in love with Jesse. She explains that she knew what she wanted when she started the show, but something changed. DeAnna says it had nothing to do with his son. DeAnna says she had her life planned out with Jason, and she liked that because it was safe and comfortable. He asks how she let him get down on his knee. DeAnna says she was happy to see him. “I got caught up in that moment and everything happened so fast … I have more compassion than Brad Womack than I have in my whole life … to be so honest and tell you that you weren’t the one – that had to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” He says he would have given anything to have DeAnna look at him the way she did with Jesse and Graham. DeAnna says “Graham does not compare to the person that you are.” DeAnna’s asked if she loved Jason, she says she was “falling in love with him” but she doesn’t believe she was fully in love with him. Jason’s still hurt, yet he manages to say that he’s happy for DeAnna. Jason says he’s learned “I can love again, honestly, because I haven’t felt that in a long time and it feels really good.” The ladies shout “We love you, Jason.” He says he’s open to love again. “Third time’s the charm, I think.”
A detour from The Bachelorette stuff. Matt and Shayne come out. They’re from the last season of The Bachelor. I notice she’s still wearing the ring and they’re sitting so close, she might as well be on his lap. Matt says he was always “excited when it came to spend time with her.” They’re still engaged. He’s still adjusting to driving on the right side of the road. They do some rumor busting. Shayne says she goes out with her friends – without Matt. Matt says he’s from the UK – it’s a great kingdom, but he did not propose for the green card. Shayne says they’re going to do some traveling (news to Matt). Shayne says Matt doesn’t fit in her bed. Matt says they’re going to London this month to celebrate his birthday. Really?? These two are gonna make it?
DeAnna comes out to, once and for all, give her side of the story. She says she and Jesse will be friends with Jason for the rest of their lives. She shows off her engagement ring for the first time since the show finished taping. She says, “I was guilty of looking at Jesse and judging on the outside – his long hair, his crazy jacket, his crazy tennis shoes. But the second that I got to sit down and talk to him, I realize that he is one of the best men I have ever met in my entire life. He has one of the best outlooks on life, love, friendship than anyone I’ve ever met.” She says the relationships with all the guys were different. But with Jesse, “he is the only man that I was with in this entire experience that I felt like I could not live without him.” DeAnna says, “I don’t ever have to worry about Jesse not telling the truth, not being himself – what you see is what you get.” She says he’s romantic. She says she picked the best man in the entire world. And (could this be famous last words?) “I’m going to be married to him for the rest of my life.” Jesse comes out, jumps over a chair, hugs and kisses her (get a room!). This is their first public appearance. He says, “She’s that person that makes me tingle on the inside.” They kiss, share “I love you.”
DeAnna cries watching Jesse propose to her. Jesse says he had no idea what he was going to say when he was going to that rose ceremony. All he can remember is asking her to marry him. DeAnna was scared he wasn’t going to propose, but once he ran past lame host Chris, she couldn’t help smiling. Jesse realized his “crush was growing on a rapid pace” when they had their first one-on-one date. Jesse says “This is probably the first relationship that I waited forever for a kiss.” It was his strategy. He wanted to be friends first. DeAnna’s dad says he’s “in shock.” He says he told her he knew she had chosen when she came to Atlanta – that it was Jesse. His dad says he knew when Jesse asked him how he knew it was love.
And now for the big announcement: the date. Mark your calendar – May 9, 2009. Hmmm. That’s during the ratings period. I’m guessing this could be another Bachelorette wedding on TV.
Jesse says it’s going to be a big Greek wedding. DeAnna says it will be in the Bahamas “where we fell in love, where we got engaged.” DeAnna says, “I could have only hoped that it would turn out this good … I’m the happiest woman in the world.”
If they aren’t happy enough, they’re given a trip to Greece. DeAnna cries again.
