DWTS: Man With The Golden Arm

I know, that’s Cristian dancing last week, but that’s the best I could do. Look! He’s holding Cheryl with one arm!! Last night, he basically beat all the other dancers with one arm behind his back (technically, the arm was not tied, it was wrapped and he moved it a little). Ready for the recap? Follow the jump!

Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas

Quick Step: I noticed at the beginning of the show, when all the dancers are lined up, Kristi appeared to be trying to breathe calmly. The girl looked terribly nervous! And it showed in her dances. I thought it was a super quick step! They hopped around a lot and were all over the place – in a good way! Len said it was fabulous. Carrie Ann thought Kristi got out of step, but said it was fantastic. Score: 29

Samba: It reminded me a bit of Carnival. It was colorful and fun. She did a spin at the end of the dance that looked very figure skater-esque. Carrie Ann didn’t like it. She called it awkward. Len said it had great speed and energy, but lost the rhythm of the dance. Bruno (crazy juice) said Kristi looked like a bejeweled humming bird going from flower to flower in the jungle. Score: 26

TOTAL SCORE: 55

Mario & Karina Smirnoff

VIenese waltz: I thought Mario looked lost at times. Then came the lift (remember, these are allowed now as long as they fit the dance). Their lift was beautiful! Carrie Ann said it was great. Len said that was Mario’s most elegant dance. Score: 27

Jive: This reminded me of that scene in “Grease” when Danny and Cha Cha dance. It was fun, with a great stunt, but it looked like Mario almost lost hold of Karina at the very end. Bruno called it the spirit of rock and roll. Carrie Ann said Mario’s wildness worked. Score: 26

TOTAL SCORE: 53

Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani

Fox trot: I couldn’t tell if her hands were off a little bit in the beginning of the performance or if that’s how it was supposed to look. The song they used was “New York New York” and maybe that’s why I felt this was a bit of Broadway (that’s a good thing). It was such fun to watch. Marissa looked like she was in her element here. Carrie Ann loved it. Len said she had lovely movement around the floor. Bruno (apparently taking a sip of crazy juice) said it was bold and brassy, he expected Ethel Merman (he even sang a bit). Once he came back to earth, Bruno said she was stomping around, not gliding. Score: 25

Mambo: This was fun! She moved so well. She and Tony have great chemistry. I can’t remember if she did a lift in this one or in the fox trot. But whichever dance it happened in, it was perfect. Carrie Ann said the turns Marissa did at the end were difficult. Len said the dance was dainty, not down and dirty and raunchy (apparently, that’s a fine line with Len). Score: 25

TOTAL SCORE: 50

Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska

Tango: It was intense and sexy. When he lifted Edyta, it almost looked like he was going to throw her through the ceiling! Guess that’s what happens when a giant guy does a lift inside! Len said it was too much like the Argentine tango (whatever that means). Bruno said – quoting here – “I hate you because you’re so beautiful.” He also said Edyta never danced better and called Jason stunning. Carrie Ann said Jason is developing as a performer. She also said she found it “Intriguingly great.” Score: 29

Samba: There was something off about his performance here. He didn’t look comfortable. They did another lift where Jason lifted Edyta straight up to the ceiling. Len said the dance was alright and that it looked uncomfortable. Bruno said Jason was not on top of it and lost rhythm. Score: 23

TOTAL SCORE: 52

Cristian de la Fuente & Cheryl Burke

Tango: Before he took a step on the floor, Cristian said “no pain, no mirror ball trophy.” Then he stepped out to Michael Jackson’s “Bad” complete with a white glove on his hand. I noticed he grimaced in pain a few times, but that did not slow him down. He even did a lift! The movement made it look like Cheryl was swinging off him. Bruno called him “the man with the golden arm” and said it was very good. Carrie Ann said there was nothing wrong with their tango. Len said Cheryl’s choreography was great. Score: 28

Mambo: Cristian had a sparkly wrap on his left arm (that’s the one with the torn tendon that needs surgery). His shirt was unbuttoned (that’ll score a few extra points – even votes)! Still, I was able to focus on the dance. It was fast and full of energy. Then, Cristian did a one-armed lift! Len said he had great hips and did a fabulous job. Bruno (crazy juice) said “The things you can do with one arm – it’s magic!” Carrie Ann said he was on fire. Score: 29 (that’s Cristian’s highest so far)

TOTAL SCORE: 57

Prediction: For the second week, Kristi is in second place – this time behind Cristian! I think Jason’s first dance made up for his second. And I think Mario had one really good dance, too. Marissa had the lowest score this week (sadly, that’s familiar territory for her). It’s getting hard to pick people off, but I think Marissa may go home this week. I believe I’ve said that before, but this time, I can’t see who else could be cut!

Tonight is the 100th episode and ABC is pulling out all the stops! The judges will name their top 10 dances of the series. Thirty stars will return and some of them will perform dances we’ve never seen. Omarion will do a tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Plus, Rascal Flatts will perform. If that’s not enough entertainment for you, I don’t know what is! It all starts at 7PM!
