Bachelor Blog: Week 6

Matt Grant

“Four women remain, only one will win his heart,” said host, Chris Harrison at the start of this week’s “The Bachelor: London Calling.” This week Matt met the families of Shayne, Chelsea, Noelle and Amanda as he narrowed his search for his true love.

Matt’s first stop was Los Angeles where he met Shayne’s parents. He practiced saying her dad’s name to make sure he got it right before meeting him over lunch.“Lamaz, Llama, Lima, Lomez …?”

ShayneShayne’s dad is actor Lorenzo Lamas, and right off the bat, he pretty much threw his daughter under the bus by telling Matt that Shayne wants to be a good actress, but she wants to be a star more. He said this was basically her opportunity to be on television. Gee, thanks Dad!So then Shayne had to convince Matt and her dad that she was sincere about her feelings for Matt. Lamas said he was just testing to see where her heart was and was pleased to hear that she was taking it seriously. He later warned Matt not to toy with Shayne’s feelings basically admitting that his shortcomings as a father may be the reason why his daughter is too eager with her heart. Shayne cried on her dad’s shoulder telling him how much his acceptance meant to her. Clearly there are some daddy issues here.

Next Matt met Shayne’s mom and sister at their home. (All I can say is WOW.) There were leopard skin designs everywhere and the dog had on a pink tutu! But Shayne’s mom was the most bizarre site of all. She had fake lips, boobs and eyelashes. (I wonder if Matt was worried that he was getting a glimpse of the future Shayne.)

“It’s not a normal quaint American family. My family is loving but we’re also a little bit crazy,” Shayne admitted.

It’s not hard to see the crazy, but the funny thing is … despite the Paris Hilton act that Shayne puts on, there is something endearing about her. Matt definitely thinks so. He said he had a “brilliant” time at her family’s house and admits he’s “falling big time” for Shayne who he affectionately calls “monkey”.

ChelseaNext Stop: Durango Colorado to meet Chelsea’s family. Over dinner, Chelsea’s dad asked Matt a good question — he wanted to know if he came on The Bachelor looking for the 25 women or the one. Matt convinced them that his intentions were true and he was looking for love. This hometown visit seemed really short but maybe it was uneventful so the bulk of it was edited out. (Although we did get to see a little more at the very end of the show during credits. Matt and Chelsea dressed up for one of those old timey photos — Chelsea wore a saloon girl outfit and Matt wore old Western garb.)

NoelleNext Matt went to Loveland, Colorado to meet Noelle’s family. It started a bit rocky as Matt rode up on a horse that wasn’t very cooperative.

“Oh dear, it was terrible entrance – I couldn’t have asked for a worse entrance,” Matt said.

He seemed to have a pleasant visit with her family though. Noelle’s usually conservative parents urged her to open up to Matt if she had feelings for him. Noelle shared some of her feelings for Matt and he expressed regret that they hadn’t spent much time together until now.

They saved the best hometown visit for last. Remember the tease last week that showed Amanda’s “mom” rubbing on Matt’s chest? Well it was actually much worse than that. This woman was over the top, drunk and loud. Her “dad” was grumpy and bitter. Turns out she hired actors to play a trick on Matt. And it worked. Until now, Matt has always seemed pretty comfortable and unruffled, but these fake parents definitely had him on guard. It was delightfully uncomfortable to watch.

“Fake mom’s laugh was definitely awkward because she would just laugh at the most inopportune times,” Amanda said.

Amanda’s fake dad asked Matt if he’d been intimate with his daughter then took Matt outside to grill him one-on-one. Amanda’s fake mom interrupted and then started getting all touchy, feely. “Are you a good boy?” she asked as she rubbed his chest.

“You are touching my nipple,” he responded uncomfortably.

Fake mom started kissing him just as fake dad stepped outside and started questioning Matt about what he was doing with his wife. Matt looked so embarrassed. Amanda decided it had been long enough and went outside to tell him the truth. Matt generously dismissed her fake mom’s behavior, blaming it on the fact that she just had too much to drink.

AmandaAmanda came clean and Matt was speechless and then was truly impressed that she could dupe him that good. He met her real family and they had a nice dinner with no inappropriate touching.

Rose Ceremony:
The roses went to Shayne Amanda and Chelsea.
Noelle was as nice and graceful as always as she said goodbye to Matt and rode away in the limo. She blamed herself for not opening up sooner, saying it wasn’t the first time that she lost a guy because of that.

Next week Matt is going to Barbados with his final three bachelorettes. Chris Harrison promises “The most romantic season finale ever.”I predict that he proposes to Amanda. I think they seem to have a good legitimate connection, but the real evidence on which I base my hypothesis comes down to nail polish. In the promo, the hand he puts the ring on has natural polish on it. Chelsea seems to wear dark colors and Shayne always wears white polish. Amanda wears no polish or very natural nail polish so therefore I think that is her hand. Will I be right? Tune in next week to find out.

I agree, but my analysis is different. I actually watched this episode – the mom promo’s sucked me in. I think had Matt not seriously been interested in Amanda, he’d have ditched her in two seconds after fake mom’s behavior (before she told him the truth) when instead he was trying to make her feel better and explain everything away. That spoke volumes to me.

Hell, the mom’s promo nearly sucked me in, too.
