A couple of Ron Burgundy moments

Okay, while I like to think I’m a bit intelligent, there are always moments in my life (like every day) that remind me that I’m not as smart as I think I am. And you have to be able to poke fun of yourself when those things happen. If you can’t make fun of yourself, then you’re not really trying. Yesterday I had what I like to call a couple of Ron Burgundy moments.

The first one happened early in the afternoon, when I went outside to see what the weather was like. I heard a prop plane flying overhead and saw that it was pulling a banner. In big block letters it said, “FREE HD!” And the first thought that ran through my brain was, “Who the heck is H.D?” It was about a split-second later that I looked at the banner again and sall the smaller print that spelled out the name of a local cable company. I guess it was my excitement in wanting to believe that someone was using our city’s enlarged importance this weekend to make a political statement. Instead, it was just an ad for a better picture.

The second was completely my fault. As was said goodbye during the 10 p.m. news, I was offering my condolences to the two losing teams in the NCAA semis. But I said Bruins and Jayhawks when I meant to say Bruins and Tarheels. Yeah, I know, former sports guy knows his stuff. I’d like to pretend that I was being prophetic and already deciding the outcome of the championship game, but considering I picked both semis wrong about 30 minutes before the first one tipped off, I’m not about to go there.

Well, I hope you got a bit of a laugh at my expense after reading this. And don’t forget… FREE H.D! wherever he is!!
