It’s Time For The Ladies

 shannon elizabeth

Oh, yes it’s ladies night and the feeling’s right.

Oh, sorry. It’s ladies night. I couldn’t resist.

Last night we saw the guys dance. With the exception of Adam, the guys weren’t bad. At the end of the show, the ladies did plenty of talking, promising they were good dancers – better than the guys.

Which one of the ladies will outshine them? My predictions are on the next page.

Contestant: Shannon Elizabeth

Why She’s A Star: Off the top of my head, I remember her as a foreign exchange student in the movie American Pie. She was also briefly in another one of my favorites, the movie Love Actually.

Why She’ll Win: She drew one heck of a partner in Derek Hough. Juliane’s brother can move (see Jennie Garth from last season). Plus, she’s a nationally ranked poker player. Doesn’t that automatically put the odds in her favor?

Why She Won’t Win: Unless she shows one great personality (and a whole lotta leg), it’s possible Shannon could be cut first. The guys tend to get a lot of attention in the early rounds, leaving it up to the ladies to do more than dance – they have to charm the viewers into getting off the sofa and voting for them!

Contestant: Marlee Matlin

Why She’s A Star: If an Academy Award for Best Actress doesn’t make you a star, what does? She won when she was just 21 for her role in Children of a Lesser God (rent, rent, rent). She’s also been on some of my favorite shows – The West Wing, Desperate Housewives, My Name Is Earl.

Why She’ll Win: Sentimental favorite, I suppose. She’s just hard not to like.

Why She Won’t: She’s hearing impaired, though should be able to pick up the beat. Whether that translates into the steps is up to her young-looking pro, Fabian Sanchez. I’m rooting for this lovely lady!

Contestant: Priscilla Presley

Why She’s A Star: If the last name doesn’t give it away… You might remember her from the Naked Gun series, and the classic TV series, Dallas.

Why She’ll Win: If Elvis didn’t teach her how to do more than stay off his blue suede shoes, I’d be disappointed. Her pro, Louis van Amstel, led Lisa Rinna around the floor for a while, so he might be able to work his magic with ’scilla.

Why She Won’t Win: I just don’t have a good feeling about this one. Her age (62 – the show’s oldest contestant) could be an issue, along with an injury she reportedly suffered during training for the show.

Contestant: Monica Seles

Why She’s A Star: She’s a HUGE name in tennis and has more trophies than I do (I know you’re just shocked at that statement).

Why She’ll Win: Athletes tend to do pretty well in this competition. The reason: they WANT to win. It’s not just something they say would be nice to win. They want another trophy, no matter how ugly it may be.

Why She Won’t Win: Her pro partner, Jonathan Roberts, will HAVE to find some way to keep Monica from grunting her way across the dance floor like she does while playing tennis. That would just be uncomfortable TV!

Contestant: Marissa Jaret Winokur

Why She’s Famous: She’s won awards for her fantastic pipes on Broadway in Hairspray.

Why She’ll Win: Well, she’s danced before – as Tracy Tunblad. She’s probably one of the younger contestants Tony Dovolani has tangoed with in a while on this show. Plus, she’s super bubbly – how can you not like that?

Why She Won’t Win: Can she do ballroom as well as she did Broadway? Can she mambo as well as she can mash potato? Not sure. I’m iffy on her, but excited to see how she does!

Contestant: Kristi Yamaguchi

Why She’s Famous: She’s an Olympic Champ (1992) and has skated around the world in Stars on Ice.

Why She’ll Win: Figure skating is so graceful, I would think Kristi would do well in ballroom. She’ll shake a tail feather with Mark Ballas, who was knocked out early last season with girlfriend Sabrina Bryan (the Cheetah Girl).

Why She Won’t Win: I think the Latin dances may be hard for Kristi. However, she hasn’t been a pro skater in a while, so there’s no telling what she’s been up to in her free time. She’s one tiny dancer who just might rally us to call in and vote!

The ladies take the stage at 8pm on KSAT 12. In the meantime, you can go to our websitefor all things related to DWTS. You can even get caught up on last night’s show!

I think Kristi will win too! I saw her skate when she was in my town…now I want tickets to see Dancing with the Stars!

She also seems pretty down to earth from her interview on Fancast:
